New evidence was heard at the Robert Badgerow murder trial in Kitchener today, evidence that wasn’t heard by juries the last three times he was tried for killing Diane Werendowicz in east Hamilton in 1981.

Two days after Diane Werendowicz was found raped and strangled in a ravine, a man called 911 and said he had information about the murder and the information he gave including things police never told the public.  A part of that 911 call can be heard in this video. After he hung up the caller picked up again and the line was still open. He said, and she was strangled with her purse. Juries have heard this call before; what they haven’t heard is what came next.

Previous juries didn’t know that police traced the 911 call back to that booth at gate 6 at Dofasco, and that police immediately went to the booth to guard it and collect evidence. In her opening statement the crown Cheryl Gzik told the jury that Robert Badgerow was working at Dofasco right near that phone booth at Ottawa street south of Burlington. The jury hasn’t heard that in evidence yet, but they have heard evidence that Badgerow had sex with Werendowicz within hours of her death.

Jury is back Friday morning, then off the first three days next week for Thanksgiving.
