Ontario Provincial Police say Gnoc Ahn Phan of Hamilton was heading eastbound on a snow-covered QEW last night around 11 o’clock when she suddenly lost control of her Honda Civic near Guelph Line, smashed off a concrete wall and bounced back into oncoming traffic, right in front of a transport truck.

The 56-year old was killed. Her sister was on the passenger side and is still in intensive care at Hamilton General hospital. Her brother tells CHCH that she and her sister were heading to work the overnight shift at a pharmaceutical plant in Burlington.

Phan is one of three people killed on the wintry roads last night. In Brampton, a 23 year old woman and 22 year old man from Mississauga died after being struck by a van near highway 410 around 8 o’clock. The passengers in the van, a father and son, are going to be alright.

As day broke and the plows made their rounds, the roads were still an obstacle course for drivers. In Hamilton, two cars collided at the intersection of Main and Catharine, sending one going head first into a nearby poll. On Hunter and John, near St. Joseph’s hospital, a westbound car slammed into the side of a northbound ambulance. And on the Red Hill Valley parkway, two cars spun into a ditch off the northbound lanes near Barton street.
