Backhoe operator arrested for impaired driving following collision in Welland

A backhoe operator is facing impaired driving charges following a hit-and-run collision in Welland.
It happened at the intersection of Niagara St. and Thorold Rd. around 8 a.m. on Monday.
Officers learned there had been a collision between a vehicle and a backhoe.
The backhoe was located nearby and police say the driver “displayed signs of impairment.”
Jeremy West, of Port Colborne, was arrested and charged with possession of a schedule I substance (crystal meth), impaired operation (drug), obstruct peace officer, and fail to remain.
