Baby hurt in crash between pickup truck and horse-drawn buggy: OPP

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) says an eight-month-old baby has been taken to hospital following a crash between a horse-drawn carriage and a pickup truck.

It happened around 5:20 p.m. on Sunday in Howick, Ont.

Police say a 20-year-old man in a pickup truck collided with the buggy after failing to yield to the vehicle at the intersection of Gorrie Line and Howick-Turnberry Road.

The horse-drawn vehicle was carrying six people at the time of the crash including a baby boy. OPP says the child was ejected and landed on the roadway.

He was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The other passengers received minor injuries in the collision.

Police are reminding drivers who use roadways in rural parts of southwestern Ontario to expect to encounter slow moving vehicles such as horse-drawn vehicles and farm equipment on the road. “They are common users of the road and have a right to be on the roadway,” said OPP in a news release.
