B.C. delays back to school start as it makes plans for COVID-19 safety
Students in British Columbia won’t head back to classrooms on Sept. 8 as originally planned.
The provincial government is looking at a more gradual return and says children will be welcomed back later in the second week of September.
No official date has been set yet.
The delay is meant to give school staff a chance to review and implement the latest guidelines and school operation policies for COVID-19.
The B.C. government is spending $45.6 million on safety measures, including increased cleaning, more hand-hygiene stations and masks.
The announcement of a phased-in approach to returning to classrooms comes as B.C. reported 46 new cases of COVID-19.
