The Hamilton man who murdered two women through HIV transmission testified Wednesday at his dangerous offender hearing.

Johnson Aziga was quoted as saying “the day that I learned that I was HIV positive in 1996, it felt like I was shot in the head, heart and soul… part of me died that day.. the very fact of not knowing how and where I got the infection ate at me like cancer.”

Aziga went on to say that he fell into deep depression and became an avid drinker, visiting bars and clubs often.

That’s where he says he met the women he had sexual relations with.

He apologized to the victims and families during his testimony.

In morning testimony, Johnson Aziga’s best friend told the court that Aziga feels remorse and is sorry for what happened.

Two years ago, Aziga was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder, 10 counts of aggravated sexual assault and one of attempted aggravated sexual assault.

If Aziga is declared a dangerous offender, he could be sent to prison indefinitely.
