Hamilton will soon be home to its very own axe-throwing league. The sport first became popular in Europe and has since picked up steam in Southern Ontario.

Once used a weapon in the middle ages axe throwing is now a sport. Competitors stand back a set distance from a wooden target and throw a 1.5-pound hatchet towards the bullseye. For tiebreakers, there are 3.5-pound and 5.5-pound axes increasing the difficulty.

The goal is to make this a sanctioned sport by working with other leagues, which could lead to inter league play.

The Iron Den’s open house is this Sunday from 3 to 5. You can come down and get a demonstration and you actually get to throw the axe and then you can sign up for the warrior games which is a league that starts on the 21st of January.
