Attempted abduction at Hamilton school

Some frightening moments for a kindergarten student — teachers and parents at a Hamilton school today. Police say a man was able to walk away from a school playground unnoticed with a child — during the lunch hour. The child didn’t know who the man is and police are now looking for him.

It happened at Earl Kitchener School on Dundurn Street South. That’s at the corner of Stanley Avenue, just north of Aberdeen. Police say around 12:10 this afternoon the man — who was walking — took the boy from the playground and then walked away with the child. Luckily someone in the area realized something wasn’t right when they noticed the child crying. That person intervened and the man took off.

The man was last seen walking south on MacDonald Avenue from Homewood Avenue. He’s described as white — with sculpted cheek bones – a pointy nose, long wavy chin length hair. Police say he’s approximately 5’7″ and 160 pounds.

At the time he was wearing a grey t-shirt. Police are investigating in the area. Because of the incident — the school would only release children to parents and guardians at this afternoon’s dismissal. And that’s when we asked them what they were thinking about how no one noticed a child being taken from the school.
