It’s a game where student assassins hunt for classmates until there’s a sole survivor, but Halton police are warning the ‘assassin game’ could turn into a very real tragedy.

While it’s only suppose to be a game, police say concerns are growing because the guns being used look a lot more like real fire arms. The ‘assassin game’ has been around for years, but seems to be pickup up steam in the area. Students buy into the game by putting $5 into a pool. Each participant receives a target which they have to pretend kill using water guns. The game usually lasts a couple weeks, until one person is left standing. The winner collects the jackpot which could reach up to a $1000.

Police are worried because the game, although it isn’t being played on school property, has very few rules. Halton police received an alarming call last Friday, after teens were playing the game around Laurier and Thompson road. Police say a woman was driving in a Milton neighbourhood, when she saw the driver in front of her point a gun at his female passenger. Following an investigation, police found out the boy was playing the game with a water gun that looks a lot like the ones officers carry.

Police say last week’s call, is one of dozens they’ve received. Last month, police were called to a Oakville neighbourhood after three people with face masks, were seen driving in an SUV and pointing guns at students walking by.
