Arts centre is short money

Burlington’s Performing Arts Centre is asking for $900,000 to help with a revenue shortfall.

The request will be debated, as Burlington works to pass its 2013 budget.

The city built the theatre as an arms-length operation in 2011, and last year, provided about $625,000 to support it.

The facility’s executive director says it based expectations on similar theatres in other communities, but says it takes time for a new business to build awareness and generate revenue.

Last year was the theatre’s first full year of operation.
