(Updated) The latest suspicious fire in the Niagara region started in a home on the border of Fort Erie and Port Colborne. It happened before 5:30 Tuesday morning.

The home was vacant so no one was hurt but the damage is extensive. The home was under renovation at the time.

It’s on Holloway Bay Road. As mentioned no one was hurt as no one was working on the residence at the time. Niagara police have called in the Ontario Fire Marshal, and the fire may be added to a growing list of suspicious fires across the Niagara region in the past couple of weeks.

CHCH News spoke with Niagara Regional Police. They believe these fires are connected because they are close geographically and they are close in time and date.

They’re asking citizens to report any suspicious activity and to be extra vigilant.

Editor’s note: Earlier editions of this article stated the fire was in Fort Erie. It was actually over the border in Port Colborne.
