Arrest made in Norfolk sexual assault case decades later: OPP

Ontario Provincial Police have made a historical arrest in a sexual assault case in Norfolk County decades later.

Officers say the investigation began in May 2022 after they received reports of sexual assaults that had occurred between 1982 and 1987 at an address in the County.

As a result of the investigation, 70-year-old Robert Melford of Cincinnati, Ohio has been arrested and charged.

He faces six counts of gross indecency, three counts of indecent assault on a female and five counts of sexual assault.

Melford was held in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
