Police have laid murder charges in connection to an incident at the Niagara Regional Detention Centre in August.

Two men are facing second degree murder charges in the death of a fellow inmate at the Detention Centre in Thorold.

Police say the inmate, 46 year old Kelvin Sawa from Port Colbourne, was taken to hospital and died a few days later.

He was in custody at the Niagara Detention Centre on charges of sexually assaulting a 14 year old boy.

Ssawa was killed before he could be released on bail.

The Niagara Major Crime Unit hasn’t said how the injuries were inflicted.

Thirty-seven year old Jeremy Hall and twenty-eight year old Cale Rose have been charged with second degree murder.

Both appeared in court Thursday in St. Catharines.

Jeremy Hall is also accused in the murder of twenty-six year old Billy Mason from Hamilton.

Police say Mason was confronted at his apartment in February of 2006, held at gunpoint and driven to a country road where hall allegedly shot him.
