Arrest in 37 year old murder
Murder charges have now been laid in connection with the death of a Burlington man back in 1976.
Police say the body of 54-year old Donald Ross McAvella was discovered in his Burlington apartment on April 26th, 1976. He was stabbed multiple times. Witnesses told police they heard an argument between two people in the early hours of the morning followed by screams, and a man was then seen leaving. It was believed he took a cab destined for Hamilton. Although evidence was collected and analyzed, the case remained unsolved.
Then this past December, new information came to light, investigators took a look, and Tuesday they arrested 66-year old Jan Goro in Banff, Alberta. He’s been charged with second degree murder and appeared in a Milton court Wednesday — 37 years to the day of the murder. He’s been remanded to April 26th. The victim’s family says they are relieved that there’s been an arrest.
