Archery activist Bob Mackie dead

Bob Mackie — a well-known archery range owner in Beamsville — has died at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack.

He was the owner of Mackie’s Mountain Archery and was the president of the Niagara Landowners Association.

Mackie spent nearly a decade fighting over land use rules so he could keep his business running. Despite legal battles and a $15,000 fine, he continued to operate his business, and it’s never closed. The archery range became popular among church groups, schools and scouts.

Mackie’s funeral will be held tomorrow at 1 pm at Lakemount Worship Centre in Grimsby.
