Apparent shooting leaves man fighting for life

Updated A man is fighting for his life in hospital after a disturbance in east Hamilton early this morning.

Police arrived at the intersection of Fairfield and Vansitmart around 4:30 this morning, to find a man heavily bleeding. The street remained closed, and the evidence covered into the early afternoon. A few blocks east of the crime scene, police set up an evidence tent near the train tracks.

Neighbors in the area where the man was found say he didn’t live there; they believe he wandered down the tracks and collapsed onto their street after he’d been injured. Police wouldn’t speak specifically about the man’s injuries, but neighbors believe it was the result of a shooting.

Police haven’t made any arrests and wouldn’t say if there are any suspects at this time.
