Anthony sentenced to 4 years; will be out next week
Casey Anthony has been sentenced to four years in prison for lying to investigators who were looking for her missing daughter.
She has already served nearly three years in jail.
Anthony sat stone-faced, often looking down and fidgeting with her hair, until Judge Belvin Perry delivered her sentence.
“I will sentence you to one year in Orange County Jail, imposing a one-thousand dollar fine on each count, all four counts to run consecutive to each other, giving you credit for the time that you have previously served.”
It comes two days after she was acquitted of first-degree murder in the death of her two-year-old daughter Caylee, as well as aggravated child abuse and manslaughter charges.
Anthony was found guilty by a jury of four misdemeanor counts, based on an interview with a detective in July 2008.
The defence had asked that her four charges be reduced to just one.
Anthony has also been fined $4,000. As well, the state of Florida is now asking that she pay the costs of her daughter’s six-month-long missing person and murder investigation.
Outside the court, many people remain angry over the decision: “If you’re not doing something, you join Casey with the blood stain on your hands because you didn’t do anything about it. You didn’t speak out.”
Anthony has 30 days to file any notice of appeal.
A court official says she will be released from a Florida jail next Wednesday.
