Today marks a new beginning for some two million students across the province, as another school year is now underway. As Adam Atkinson reports, the first day of school is one the most exciting times of the year.
“I missed my friends.” 12 year old Cassie Owen knows all about missing her friends. She lives out in the country, and doesn’t see many of her Tapleytown Public School friends over the summer. The first day back is exciting. “It means a lot because I don’t get to see my friends much over the summer, it’s nice to get back together with them.”
Damon Mombourquette is back at Tapleytown after attending a different school last year. “I really didn’t know anybody at the other school, it was just awkward. So coming back here, I was really excited.”
It’s not just kids getting excited about new beginnings. Manny Figueiredo is starting his first school year as the Director of the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board. “Last night I woke up at 4am, tossing and turning. I woke up excited about this day.”
While it’s great to see their friends again, students will miss a few things about summer. “Sleeping in till noon was a lot of fun.”
