It may be September but it sure doesn’t feel like it. There is a heat warning in effect for Hamilton and much of southern Ontario. This certainly isn’t the first heat wave we’ve faced this summer, it’s been hot and dry and record setting.

Geoff Coulson is a meteorologist with Environment Canada, he says the temperature has been over 30 degrees 26 days this year in Hamilton. In the average year, we would only see temperatures that high for about 11.

“August actually broke a record for the warmest August we’ve ever had at the Hamilton airport and we’ve had observations at the Hamilton airport since 1959.”

The average high was 28.4 degrees, but it wasn’t just hot this summer, it was dry and don’t expect the heat to go away just because August is over.

“September overall is expected to be warmer than normal.”
