Ontario’s Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry is doing an annual rabies bait drop.

The program is to fight the outbreak of fox and raccoons getting rabies by distributing bait containing a vaccine.

Low flying aircraft are dropping bait in rural areas of Brant, Ohsweken and Haldimand-Norfolk starting today.

Hand distributions in city areas got underway in June and will continue until the middle of September.

The ministry says the bait helps to immunize that eat it. The vaccine is contained in a plastic package that has a “do not eat” message on it.

The bait is not harmful to pets or people.
