The Annual New Year’s Levee has become part of our culture. It’s one local residents have come to expect and enjoy.

There were crafts for kids and even light refreshments were served. But the highlight this year was a chance to meet with Lieutenant Governer Elizabeth Dowdeswell.  She joined Mayor Fred Eisenberger and his wife for the annual celebration.

Many waited patiently in line just to speak with her for a few moments. Dowdeswell posed for selfies and photos.

She says 2018 needs to be about inclusion, “Making sure that nobody gets left behind and that starts at the local community and that’s why it’s important to come to communities like Hamilton and others because it’s not something a government can dictate, it’s how you get along with your neighbours.”

The event gives Hamiltonians a chance to speak with the Mayor too – he says given it’s an election year and LRT is on the horizon he’s excited about 2018.
