The Women’s Housing Planning Collaborative hosted the annual ‘Homeless No More Memorial’ event on Wednesday, which took place at Hamilton City Hall.

This event served as a tribute to those who have tragically lost their lives due to housing deprivation and homelessness, shedding light on the critical need for housing solutions and support in the Hamilton community.

Violetta Nikolskaya, the Director of Inclusion & Engagement at YWCA Hamilton, said that any one of us could potentially face the risk of homelessness.

Nikolskaya stressed the urgency of recognizing that these individuals’ deaths could have been preventable if the necessary support systems were in place.

Nikolskaya also says the average lifespan of a Canadian is 81 years, while the average age of an individual experiencing homelessness is only 43.
