Ammonia leak in Burlington factory sends 15 to hospital: police

Halton police say 15 people are in hospital following an ammonia leak at a factory in Burlington Thursday morning.

Officers received reports shortly after 11 a.m. of an ammonia leak inside Sofina Foods at 821 Appleby Line.

Employees evacuated the building and have been relocated to the Appleby Arena. Some workers were seen wrapped in emergency blankets.

A police spokesperson says the 15 employees transported to hospital were taken for precautionary measures.

The Ministry of Labour and emergency crews are currently at the scene to help relocate the employees.
