American man arrested in Niagara Falls after failing to stop at border

An American man has been arrested in Niagara Falls after failing to stop at the border.

Niagara officers were called for reports that a vehicle had crossed the Rainbow Bridge without stopping from Canada Border Services Agency officers.

They located the vehicle in the area of Second Ave. and Kitchener St.

The driver crashed into a police vehicle while trying to get away.

Police say officers were assaulted as they tried to arrest the driver and the man was tased.

The driver was taken to hospital in the back of a police car to be assessed.

Police say he damaged the cruiser by kicking at the window cage and bit a nurse while at the hospital.

Damage to the cruiser involved in the collision is estimated at $7,000.

Harpreet Singh, 33, of North Tonawanda, New York is facing several charges.
