American Heist is an American-Russian co-production directed by Sarik Andreasyan. The film is a remake of the 1959 Steve McQueen film The Great St. Louis Bank Robbery and is the first film from Glacier Films, a production company founded by Hayden Christensen, his brother Tove, and Andreasyan. Christensen stars in the film alongside Adrien Brody, Jordana Brewster, and Akon.
JAMES (Hayden Christensen) owes his life to his older brother, FRANKIE (Adrien Brody) after he took the rap and landed in prison. However, now Frankie is out and James’ guilt sets in while James is simultaneously trying to revive his relationship with EMILY (Jordana Brewster). With promises of a new future and money, they turn to Frankie’s underworld connections, SUGAR (Akon) and RAY (Tory Kittles), in the hopes that one last job would be the answer to change both their lives.
American Heist had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, receiving lukewarm reviews. Glacier Films currently has a number of other projects in the works including the Sundance hit Cooties starring Elijah Wood, Inner Circle in which “a CIA analyst gets caught up in an alternate government organization’s secret operation while trying to investigate his father’s disappearance”, and a horror film based on the life of Countess Bathory, a serial killer in 16th century Transylvania who supposedly killed hundreds of children.
American Heist is rated 14A.
