Almost full speed ahead for Canadian Motor Speedway

It’s almost full speed ahead now for the Canadian Motor Speedway. The Niagara Region planning committee has approved the expansion of the speedway’s layout that would give developers access to tax breaks and development charges that could max-out at $19.7 million. The incentives would go towards the first phase of the $150-million, 65-thousand seat speedway, and related facilities. Council will make the final vote on those incentives next Thursday. Investors say a racing-specific research facility, and 185 acres of parking and camping grounds will bring the project’s cost to $400 million. The speedway is being designed by Nascar star Jeff Gordon, and is expected to attract Nascar, Formula One and Cart races, along with concerts and conventions. Developers are looking towards a grand opening in 2017.
