All vaccinated Ontario residents can now download their enhanced COVID-19 vaccine certificate which includes a QR code.

Premier Doug Ford revealed the scannable certificates on Friday.

The province said the new document will allow for faster entry into settings that require proof of vaccination such as pubs, restaurants, sporting events, casinos and other indoor entertainment events starting Friday.

Residents can visit the province’s COVID-19 vaccination portal to download their enhanced vaccine certificate and book vaccination appointments online.

A photo health card, birth date and postal code are required to download the code.

The new QR codes will be used in conjunction with the Verify Ontario app.

Businesses will use the app to scan QR codes and determine proof of vaccinations.

If the QR code is valid, a green checkmark will appear. A red ‘X’ will appear if the code is invalid.

The QR code will only show basic vaccine information along with information to identify the user.

The information will be displayed on the screen for about 20 seconds. The province says once a new code is scanned, the information from the previous customer is erased.

Consumers do not need to download the Verify Ontario app as it is for use by businesses only.
