AirCan ground workers end wildcat walkout but bitterness remains
Video updated: The wildcat strike at Air Canada by ground workers is over – but the aftermath still continues.
At least two dozen flights were cancelled and some 50 delayed by the walkout that started at Pearson Airport last night and spread to Quebec and Vancouver today. It all began when three ground workers were suspended after labour minister Lisa Raitt was heckled while walking through the Pearson’s Terminal 1 last night.
37 workers who took part in the job action have been fired. Most workers returned to their jobs after an arbitrator told them everyone would be reinstated without penalty.
Anyone flying Air Canada today should check with the airline to see if their plane is delayed. The airline warns that call centre wait times will be longer than usual.
