Many spent time with their loved ones Monday, as Ontarians celebrate Family Day.
An Afghan family who now calls Hamilton home is especially grateful to be together, after making a harrowing escape as the Afghan government collapsed and the Taliban took over.

Abdul Naebi, his three children, and his wife are settling into their new home in Hamilton after fleeing Afghanistan in September. Naebi was working as an interpreter and helping Canadian and U.S. soldiers. Naebi knew his life was in danger when the Taliban took over Afghanistan last summer.

In Hamilton complete strangers like Michelle Tovey came to help Naebi and his family. Bringing the family furniture, clothes and toys. Dozens of Hamiltonians have lended a hand.

Naebi says the best thing about living in Canada is freedom. Saying, “I am not scared to live here, we are very free. We have freedom. We are living in peace.”
