Afflicted

Afflicted is a found footage horror film from co-directors Derrek Lee and Cliff Prowse. The pair also star in the film, set up as a travel blog that documents their year long voyage around the world. But their trip of a lifetime quickly turns into a nightmare. After Derrek is viciously attacked in Paris he starts developing some bizarre side effects, including an aversion to sun and food and superhuman strength.

The film was made on a shoe string budget and premiered at TIFF’s midnight madness program last September. The film’s genesis came from an idea the pair had for a vampire documentary. “Most vampire films have a highly-stylized, cinematic look to them designed to heighten the fantasy world they depict,” the directors write. “Conversely, we felt our more grounded, biological vision of vampirism would be much more affecting if it were presented as “real footage” – a documentary, shot and assembled by the characters in the film for their travel blog.”
