Sexually-charged emails and karaoke were the topics today in day 3 of the Jian Ghomeshi sexual assault trial. The only accusor who chose to have her identity revealed took the stand today.

Ghomeshi was welcomed by a group of demonstrators as he arrived at old city hall to watch Lucy Decoutere take the stand. Decoutere is the only complainant that opted out of the publication ban. The 45-year old actress is known for roles in the ‘Trailer Park Boys’ franchise and is also an officer with the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Decoutere says she met Ghomeshi in June 2003 during a media conferece in Banff. They stayed in touch via email and routinley shared what she considered fun, sexually-themed jokes. The two met in Toronto the next month and during a tour of his home, she says they started kissing and Ghomeshi abruptly began choking and hitting her.

Decoutere said she stayed for another hour because, “I felt sorry for him. He thought this was an appropriate thing to do…I wanted to protect him, I didn’t want people to know what he did.”

During the cross examination, Marie Henein mentioned that decoutere never told police in 2014 that she kissed Ghomeshi goodnight after the alleged assault and revealed several photos of the two cuddling at various events later that same weekend. She even suggested that Decoutere reported the assault in an attempt to increase her celebrity.

Decoutere will return tomorrow for further questions.
