Two people charged in connection with a deadly arson at a Hamilton convenience store last summer have pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Samir Anbari, 21, was working in the store that was under construction on Main Street East near Barnesdale Avenue on August 4th. Two cars doused with gas were driven up to the store and set on fire.

Anbari died of smoke inhalation.

Sami Karnaz, 30, and Elly Zreik, 22 – both of Mississauga – say they didn’t know Anbari was in the building and apologized to his family in court today. Karnaz was sentenced to eight years in jail plus time served. Zreik -reek) was sentenced to six years and three months behind bars, plus time served.
