An abandoned house causes frustration among neighbours

An abandoned house on Hamilton Mountain has frustrated it’s neighbors, who say there’s an increase in rodents, and other unwelcome wildlife.

Neighbours say the backyard of the property hasn’t been maintained for years, and the city isn’t doing enough to help them.

Jim Buffam has lived in this east mountain neighbourhood for 34 years. He knew the previous owners of this house who passed away about 6 years ago.

Neighbours say the daughter took ownership after her parents died, and the property has been vacant and neglected for 5 years.

According to the neighbours, the last time the grass was mowed was back in May, and that was just the front. The back is in even worse shape, weeds and grass as high as 4 feet tall.

Marcella Schoutsen lives right next door, she can’t understand why the city let it get this bad.

City of Hamilton officials say they are aware of the property, and will be issuing work orders on it tomorrow.
