Abandoned horses gaining strength

We have a story that will warm your heart.
In December we first told you about two starving horses, abandoned on the doorstep of the Last Chance Horse and Pony Rescue. Six months later, you wouldn’t recognize them.
In December, Lucky was so emaciated you could see his
ribs. Noelle, the little miniature abandoned with him, had an eye so
badly infected she couldn’t see. it’s a different story today.
“He came in weighing 680 pounds. And now he’s 980,” said Sharron Allen of Last Chance Horse & Pony Rescue.
Thanks to Allen and her team of volunteers at Last Chance, Lucky is a brand new animal.
“He’s more outgoing, more friendly. He’s got life in him. His eyes sparkle. He’s an
amazing horse,” said Allen.
The only thing that agitates lucky is if he can’t see his friend Noelle. Lucky is so protective of Noelle, he chases away every horse that comes near her.
But it’s costly to run this stable. There are 32 horses at Last Chance. They need about $120,000 a year to care for these animals. Every month Allen forks out $400 to feed each horse.
Without donations from the public, Lucky, Noelle and Rino would have ended up in the slaughterhouse.
The Rockin’ Rescue fundraising event will be held Saturday from 2 to 10 pm at the Crystal Ridge Community Centre on Ridge Road in Crystal Beach.
There will be live bands and food and beer and wine. Tickets are $10.
