New Keddy Access trail to open on Friday, Claremont Access reopens

A new multi-use trail is set to open in Hamilton Friday afternoon after about five months of construction.
Crews began working on the Keddy Access Trail in July. The project included roadway resurfacing along the Claremont Access upbound lanes and the Mountain Brow ramp to West 5th St., new pedestrian signals and the construction of the trail itself.
It spans between Hunter St. and West 5th St., with side connections at four locations: West Ave., St. Joseph’s Dr., north and south sides of Arkledun Ave. and Tanner St. through Southam Park.
The trail is named after popular Hamilton teacher Jay Keddy who was killed cycling up the Claremont Access in December 2015.
There will no be a ribbon cutting or other official event to celebrate the opening because of COVID-19.
The upbound lanes of the Claremont Access are now reopen. The city says the downbound lanes will be resurfaced as part of a future project.
