Hamilton’s eighth annual Special Olympics kicked off this morning. Police launched the event with a fundraising torch run.

Staff Sergeant Glenn Bullock talked about the need to help Special Olympic athletes. “They need our funding. They have tournaments, they have equipment, they have travel expenses.”

“Just the sheer ability for them to get out into the community and participate in athletic events is a real therapeutic bonus for them.”

Officers ran with the flame to Mohawk College. There, students from Hamilton high schools teamed up with Special Olympic athletes for sports and games.

All proceeds from the torch run support events like this one and help fund accessible sports for Special Olympic athletes.
