Niagara Non-perishable Auctions

A woman in Welland has come up with a unique way to collect donations for charity.

It’s called Niagara Non-perishable Auctions and in just four weeks, she’s already gathered more than 4 thousand pounds of food and other items to help those in need.

For Linda Ranalli, it really is a dream come true.

“I dreamt I was at an auction where they were bidding in non perishable foods.”

So she turned her dream into a reality, forming Niagara Non-perishable Auctions.

“Items are put up for auction and people can log on and bid for these items and their bids are done in non perishable items. So if they win and their bid is a 30 they owe me 30 non perishable items”.

Leanne Starr is a frequent bidder and winner. She’s dropping off juice boxes, water and other non perishables after having the winning bid for lawn care and easter baskets.

“It’s nice to be able to help the people in the community in knowing that the food is going to stay here, not be shipped so we know we are helping our neighbours”

So far they’ve collected more than 4000 pounds of food and other items and donated to five different charities. The first was the Hope Centre in Welland. It received more than 400 pounds of items after only three days of bids.

” I love to help people, I can’t help it, I love helping my own neighbourhood, my own backyard, there’s not enough of it being done.”

Items auctioned off are new or gently used. Some big companies have donated but some of the bidders also donate auction items. You have to be a member to bid and membership is free.
