After two pedestrians were hit this week on Hamilton Streets, police are calling on everyone to be more attentive. One of the people hit died overnight, the other is still in hospital. Police are still looking for the hit and run driver responsible for the death. And as Kate Carnegie reports, they’re hoping for some help from the public.

An 86-year old Hamilton woman died in hospital Wednesday after being hit by a vehicle on Monday. It happened on Ray street at Main Street West in Hamilton around two in the afternoon. Initially, it was believed she’d been hit by the school bus which was parked in between the police tape. But police now say she was hit by another vehicle that took off.

Hamilton police say they don’t know the make or model of the vehicle that hit the woman and they also don’t have a description of the driver.

This is the city’s 13th traffic fatality and the 5th involving a pedestrian.

Robert Hersics is with Hamilton Police: “That’s why we are appealing to the public so that if they have any information about this collision contact our office with any information they may have.”

It was a nice warm sunny monday and the roads were bone dry when the woman was hit.

Friday, it was rainy when an elderly man was hit by a tractor trailer in Burlington. The man was hit just before 10am on Dundas Street at Sutton Drive. The driver of the truck stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. The man was conscious when he was taken to Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital. All eastbound lanes on Dundas were closed for part of the day.
Police want to remind drivers and pedestrians to be aware especially with the winter weather just around the corner.
