83-year-old cyclist seriously injured after being hit by car in Welland

An 83-year-old cyclist has been seriously hurt after being struck by a vehicle in Welland.

Officers were called to the area of East Main St. and McAlpine Ave. South around 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police say the cyclist was travelling southbound on East Main St. when he pulled in front of a Toyota Corolla that was travelling in the same direction.

The 42-year-old driver swerved in an attempt to avoid hitting the cyclist and crashed into a wall.

The cyclist was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver was not hurt in the collision.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the incident.
