80 dogs seized in Brant County

After two searches of a property on West Dumprhies Road in Brant County, OSPCA investigators seized 80 dogs and two cats.

Some of them are now being cared for by the Brant County SPCA. The dogs are mostly maltese and yorkies. Some of them are missing a lot of fur, others have red and inflamed looking paws and appendages.

Officials from Brant County say this is one of the worst cases of animal cruelty they’ve seen.

Inspector Brandon James says some of the animals are in worse condition than others, and none of them are being put up for adoption yet. He says a neighbour reported the deplorable conditions.

A father and daughter are now facing charges. Marshall and Darlene Dougherty are facing multiple charges of causing distress to animals, failing to comply with stand care, and failing to comply with medical attention. They have a court date set for September.
