Eight people are dead and more than 200 are injured following two earthquakes that struck parts of Turkey and Syria Monday, two weeks after tens of thousands of people in the region were killed by a massive tremor.

Officials say people are trapped inside of a number of collapsed buildings.

It was centred in the town of Defne, in Turkey’s Hatay province, which is one the worst-hit areas in the magnitude 7.8 quake that rocked the region on Feb. 6 and has killed nearly 45,000 people.
