Havoc ensued after five million bees fell off a cargo truck transporting them in Burlington early Wednesday morning.

Halton police say it happened around 6:15 a.m. on Guelph Line north of Dundas Street.

They are now working to get the bees back into their boxes after they say they “unleashed havoc” in the area.

While the road remains open, residents and drivers in the area are advised to keep their windows up and pedestrians are being asked to avoid the area.

Police say that the initial beekeeper on scene was stung “quite a few times”, but no further

Officers asked for anyone with the equipment and knowledge needed to handle a large quantity of bees to get in contact with them to aid in the cleanup process.

They say that due to an overwhelming response from beekeepers in the area the majority of the bees have been safely collected and the scene is expected to be cleared shortly.
