45 Canadians on board stranded cruise ship

Officials in the Philippines say 45 Canadians are among the 1001 people on board the luxury cruise ship that was stranded at sea for 24 hours Friday after an engine room fire.

The Azamara Quest is making its way toward the the Malaysian island of Borneo, after the crew was able to restore propulsion Saturday night.

The ship was drifting off of the southern Philippines for a full day after flames engulfed one of its engine rooms Friday, injuring five crew members.

Embassy staff are currently on hand ready to assist passengers and crew on board the ship.
