403 cash won’t buy more lights or traffic cameras

The province and the federal government are chipping in $23.8 million to repair a couple of bridges and resurface Highway 403 in Hamilton.

MPP Ted McMeekin says the 403 is one of the most-travelled highways in Ontario. The resurfacing will happen over a five kilometre stretch from west of Highway 6 to west of Aberdeen Avenue. The Highway 6 underpass and the Desjardins Canal bridge will also be rehabilitated. However, the province has no plans to improve lighting or install traffic cameras.

The work will begin after an environmental assessment, possibly by next spring, with scheduled completion between 2016 and 2018.
