Today marks the 30th anniversary of when the space shuttle Challenger exploded shortly after take off in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Thirty years ago on an unusually cold day in Florida the space shuttle Challenger and its crew, seven astronauts including Christa McAuliffe who was to be the first teacher in space, blasted off.

Just 73 seconds after liftoff, the Challenger exploded over the Atlantic Ocean.It’s an image most people who remember the disaster will never forget.

In honor of the Challenger crew and others who have lost their lives, January 28th is now the ‘NASA Day of Remembrance.’
