3 dead in house fire on Hamilton Mountain

Three people have died following an early morning house fire on Hamilton Mountain.

It happened around 12:30 p.m. at a single-family home on Laird Drive. near Upper Ottawa st.

“When crews arrived on scene they found heavy smoke conditions. Crews immediately went inside and began search and rescue,” said Hamilton Fire spokesperson Claudio Mostacci.

A mother and her two older children were pulled from inside the one-storey home. One person was pronounced dead at the scene and two others were transported to hospital where they later died.

City housing Hamilton says when it checked the home’s smoke detectors earlier this month they were working, but the Fire Marhsall’s office says it’s too early in their investigation to confirm if they were working this morning.
