$3.5M lottery winner: “I thought it was a mistake”
A Hamilton woman’s numbers came up in Saturday’s Lotto 6/49 draw – making her $3.5 million richer.
Kricket Slik bought the lucky ticket at JJ’s Convenience on the corner of Robert and John on Saturday when she went in to buy cigarettes for her friend.
The 21-year-old says she rarely plays the lottery and never expected to win.
She picked up her cheque today in Toronto.
We spoke to the young winner about the moment she checked the ticket at a Hamilton Shoppers Drug Mart and discovered she was a millionaire.
“I thought it was a mistake. I checked it like 50 times just standing there saying ‘what’s going on’ and then we realized ‘oh my God’ and then we just left really fast.”
“I couldn’t sleep at all last night. I was up, I slept 4 hours, my head was buzzing. I don’t know what to do at all, I am just shocked.”
An OLG spokesperson says they don’t have an age database for past winners but says Slik is one of the youngest Lotto 6/49 jackpot winners in recent memory.
A 24-year-old Ontario man won $5.5 million.
Slik says she is getting plenty of advice from family and friends on how to spend the money… but says she is still too overwhelmed to know what to do with it.
