National Service Dogs held its annual fundraiser at Joe Sams Park, where 95 families and 150 of their furry friends donated. National Service Dogs says all proceeds will go towards the development and training of dogs for those needing support and the average cost per dog is around $50,000.

Executive director, Danielle Forbes says each dog takes two years to raise and train before they are matched with clients. She says they provide the client with eight years of ongoing support service at no charge, “we receive no government funding, so events like this are our bread and butter.”

Forbes says the organization supports children living with autism, veterans with PTSD, and others with physical and mental trauma. She says they have a long waitlist because of COVID-19 delays. Similar events were held in four other cities across the province today.
