25 years ago today, Brantford’s Wayne Gretzky was traded from the Edmonton Oilers to the L.A. Kings.

Edmonton Oilers owner Peter Pocklington traded then 7-time Hart Trophy winner Wayne Gretzky to Bruce McNall’s Los Angeles Kings. Number 99 was sent to Southern California along with Mike Krushelnyski and Marty Mcsorley in return for sniper Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, three 1st-round draft picks and a reported $15-million. As we would find out years later, the trade was at Gretzky’s request.
