22-year-old man charged in attempted auto theft in Burlington

An investigation into an attempted auto theft in Burlington in January has led to the arrest of a 22-year-old man from Mississauga.

On Jan. 10, Halton police got a call about a high-end vehicle theft in progress in the area of Appleby Line and New Street.

Police say they saw two suspects running away from the scene when they arrived, but officers were not able to find the suspects after a search of the area.

A search warrant was executed at a residence in Mississauga on Wednesday where investigators seized vehicle break and enter tools, vehicle master keys, as well as a quantity of suspected fentanyl.

Arshmit Peter, 22, of Mississauga is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of break and enter tools, possession of vehicle master keys, and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Peter was released from custody and is expected to appear in court in Milton on Mar. 27.
